The inspiration for The Lake & Stars was to abstract a map of Lake Superior and its surrounding landmarks with an overlaid segment of the universe, blending the Great Lake with a starry sky. The constellations are abstractly depicted as they might appear over the lake in the nighttime, reflecting the vastness and depth of both lake and sky.
Foil details weave together to create layers of depth within the hand-painted lake. The lines connecting the constellations and the parallels are blind debossed; the locations around the lake and the constellations are foil-stamped; the stars are pale matte silver foil; the lake a screen-printed from an original hand-painted piece. Printed on French Midnight Blue 100# in collaboration with Vahalla Studios and McIntosh Embossing.

I have done design work for The Bachelor Farmer outside my main occupation for North Corps at Askov Finlayson (more to come on that brand soon) — my work for TBF includes a custom design for the vegan pop-up menu the restaurant hosted during Al Gore’s visit here this fall, as well as a Miir mug for the cafe celebrating camping and fall, and updates to the formatting for all TBF menus (dinner, brandy, dessert, drinks, and wine).
We were asked by Quarto Publishing Group USA to create a cover design for Mezcal: The History, Craft & Mixology Behind the World’s Most Ultimate Artisanal Spirit, authored by Emma Janzen. The cover design references traditional ingredients used in the making of Mezcal and features executional details inspired by Oaxacan art. A compilation of marks from student work, freelance, and Studio MPLS.
Partnering with Jim Anderson to design art for his wooden board game sets. The pictured cribbage board is a prototype. The theme is set around Minnesota lakes and shorelines. I also recreated Jim’s family’s JA monogram that was passed down through generations in the form of a branding iron. More to come!

Tabassum produces fine jewelry and fashionable accessories made from sustainably-sourced natural materials from around the world. Named after the founder's spouse and business partner, Tabassum commissioned our team at Studio MPLS to help build their brand from scratch, activating key positioning and objectives through a high-end yet approachable visual brand language spanning identity, packaging, materiality, and photography style. For over 110 years, Minnesota-based Red Wing Shoes has been exporting their meticulously-handcrafted footwear to the world. However, they have not produced footwear specifically tailored to women since the 1920's. That all changed in 2016 with the launch of the Women's Heritage Collection. We worked closely with the Red Wing brand team and Kate Arends of Wit & Delight to define and activate the collection’s visual and verbal positioning, culminating in a lookbook and catalog for the global launch of the product line.
Posters for Parks launched its first-ever show in October 2016, featuring posters inspired by Minneapolis parks created by local artists / designers. 50% of sales were donated to People for Parks. Black and copper two-color screen-print by Eric at Steady Co. I recently created a pin & pin-backer, to be sold later this year. 25% of profits from those sales will go to Mpls parks. Photos by me.

Boreal is a nonprofit organization that provides community information and local connectivity for residents and visitors of the Cook County region of northern Minnesota. Their team recognized a pressing need to modernize the organization's identity while elevating and expanding their visual language. The resulting identity system conveys a sense of legend and exploration, with a nod to the artisanship that is present in this creative community.

Identity and photography for a local yoga instructor / wellness coach. Annie brings her practice to local businesses like coffee shops, breweries, and distilleries to create an approachable Vinyasa flow. Annie is inspired by sugar skulls, badassery, a balance of health and indulgence, and gratitude for life’s highs and lows.
We had the privilege of designing this year’s branding for AIGA Minnesota’s Portfolio 1-On-1® event, taking place today and tomorrow at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Portfolio 1-On-1® offers design students a unique opportunity to have their portfolios reviewed by professionals in the design industry. Designed at Studio MPLS. Photography & design elements by me. Mono may be located in the Midwest, but its attitude is that of cutting-edge ad firms in LA and New York. This project included branding, new website UX/UI, approach to social media, internal, and client-facing assets (keynotes, powerpoints, e-signatures, and more).

I was asked a second year in a row to design the Crafts & Cocktails poster for Tattersall Distilling's annually-hosted art fair. Digitally printed poster + applications for Facebook and Instagram.
Case study for an identity I designed at Studio MPLS. ÄMNA is a start-up fashion collection from Minneapolis-based designer Christiana Kippels scheduled to launch Fall 2016. We were tasked with bringing Christiana's creative vision to life through the development of a brand name and an artful, modern brand identity. Paying homage to our region's Scandinavian heritage, the Swedish word ämna means to act with intent or purpose. Each piece reflects these values through artful tailoring, considered materials, and timeless silhouettes.

Tenth Muse is a start-up fragrance brand, launching early 2017. Studio MPLS was entrusted with developing a visual brand language for Tenth Muse that reflects the refined, calculated, and spiritual characteristics of their products. We're planning to share a full case study–including packaging, stationery, iconography + illustrations, and website–in tandem with the brand's launch. In the meantime, we're thrilled to offer a first look at some of the recently-completed brand elements.
Designed at Studio MPLS. CD Dan Olson. Mad Lil’s Kitchen is a start-up organic meal preparation and delivery service that will provide healthy and delicious options for individuals and families. Named after the founder's daughters, Madeline and Lillian, we were approached by Mad Lil's for a refined and approachable identity system. We developed a visual brand language inspired by foliage and homegrown produce that will provide consistency and broad appeal across the brand's range of consumer touchpoints.

Branding for a judo gym in St. Paul. Independent client.
Boreal asked us to design a self-sealing holiday campaign mailer to reach current and prospective donors. We provided them with a solution that was not only cost-effective but applicable to web banners and social media platforms; the illustration as seen on the front of the mailer is modular and flexible in its design to accommodate multiple dimensions.
